SABA – CARE FOR ME

Where do I start? This album was beyond any expectations that I had for Saba, if any. I’ll explain. To be honest, outside of the two singles he had with Chance The Rapper for ‘Everybody’s Something’ and ‘Angles’, I don’t know much about Saba. When I heard that he was going to drop this album called CARE FOR ME, I was curious about what this project was about. After the second song ‘Broken Girls’, I was hooked. I was actually getting emotional before I reached the second half of the album. The level of vulnerability that was expressed throughout CARE FOR ME is extremely commendable. Now the first run through with this album, I was getting Odd Future and Tyler the Creator vibes. The echoes after the adlibs are very reminiscent of Tyler’s mixtape Bastard. You can hear these sounds in ‘Broken Girls’ and in ‘Prom King’, also amongst other songs in the album. After watching several interviews and doing brief research on Saba, I found that we both share the same birthday, which is July 17th. Is that why this album resonates with me so much? Who knows. What I do know is that CARE FOR ME is definitely in the running for album of the year.
