Childish Gambino just dropped the song ‘This Is America’ and the video simultaneously about two weeks ago. Honestly when I first heard this song, it didn’t sound like Childish Gambino rapping on the track at all. During the first run through, I noticed all of the different rappers on the track like BlocBoy JB, 21 Savage, and Young Thug. Based on that, I was hooked. Their ad-libs really amplified the song for me. As far as trying to dissect the video and the lyrics, that took me about 4 or 5 run throughs. The amount of hidden messages that lead to a common underlying theme was mind-blowing. I can’t remember the last time I replayed a video so many times just to see if I missed something from the previous run. Now that I’ve spent time and pieced the video together, I project this song to be truly timeless. However, the video should be deemed timeless rather than the song. Childish Gambino outdid himself with this.
