I am ESTACTIC that Metro came out of this “retirement” phase that he said he was in once upon a time. Metro Boomin’ is one of my favorite producers of all time so I didn’t know how to take that “retirement” information that was given to us, or even take it seriously. I guess right now that’s neither here or there since he gave us this project that is spectacular. I’ve noticed with this album that when Metro is using a sample, he’s letting the original song play in the beginning and also the end for a good while before his rendition of the beat comes on. Metro Boomin’ has done this before, however I hear it a lot more here.
My favorite song from this project is ‘Space Cadet’. Gunna is featured on that song and he is starting to become an artist that I’m going to keep my eye on. The instrumental is very hard-hitting per usual, but the way Gunna flows on it is one of a kind. Not to mention the subtle Travis Scott ad-libs that softly plays in the background just makes the song that much better.
Another stand out song from that project is ‘Borrowed Love’ featuring Swae Lee & Wizkid. This song also features an original sample that plays out in the beginning before the actual song starts. I’m feeling the Caribbean vibe that this song has. I don’t think I’ve heard Metro dabble with reggae-like beats before, but I love what I’m hearing.
My only con with this project is the fact that ‘No Complaints’ was added in. That could’ve been left as a single. In general, I don’t like when artists’ gives us a single a year before their projects drops, and still feels the need to include it. It throws off the entire vibe of the project for me.
Overall, I’ve been playing this album pretty consistently since it came out on November 2nd. I’m glad Metro stuck with who works best with him on his beats, which is 21 Savage, Swae Lee, Travis Scott, and Gunna. I don’t mind hearing them more than once throughout the album at all. I’m hopeful that Metro can stay in the game a little longer and not tease this “retirement” situation anymore. He’s one of the best and has an extremely huge fanbase that wants him to stay, including myself.
