On November 16th, Mike Will dropped the Creed II soundtrack. To say that I’m impressed by this soundtrack is an understatement. Mike Will really outdid himself with the production and the features that he had on here. I honestly can say there’s not one bad song on this project. When the track list was introduced, I was a little weary on if the album was going to hold up to the hype due to all of the heavy-hitters on there, but it most certainly held up its end of the bargain with being phenomenal.
While letting the album ride out, one track that caught my ear was ‘Fate’ by Swae Lee and Young Thug. The instrumental alone is just flawless, but adding Swae Lee’s vocals for the hook and Thug skating on the beat so effortlessly just makes me want to put that song on repeat all day. There’s really something about Swae Lee’s voice that just adds that perfect touch on any song; whether he’s providing a simple melody or giving an ad-lib or two.
Another song that caught me off-guard (for the good) was ‘We Can Hit’ by Crime Mob & Slim Jxmmi. Crime Mob was one of my favorite hip-hop groups from my earlier days. For them to hop on this song was BEYOND perfect. The style, the energy, and the subject matter fits Crime Mob to the T. I’m so happy they agreed to do this song. However, now I’m wondering if they will reunite officially and give us some more music. I really hope so because obviously they still have a huge impact in hip-hop and the culture.
One more thing that I’ll add about this soundtrack is that I had no clue that Tessa Thompson could sing. The song ‘Midnight’ is a great song accompanied by Gunna. Just by looking at who’s featured on this song before hearing it, I would’ve never guessed what this would sound like but I was in for a nice surprise.
Out of the past 3 soundtracks that I’ve listened to, which were Superfly, Black Panther, and Creed II, I’d definitely say that Creed II is by far the most enjoyable. I hope to hear more projects that are executively produced by Mike Will. I’m also waiting for the next Ransom project, but I’m currently content with this amazing soundtrack Mike Will gave us. I’m sure that will hold me over until Ransom 3 comes out *crosses fingers*.
