CALL ME WHEN YOU GET LOST – Thoughts / Ramblings

I immediately felt immense joy when Tyler dropped LUMBERJACK and I heard DJ Drama’s voice screaming all over the track. I didn’t know what I was in for, but I knew something special was coming. Shortly after, he dropped WUSYANAME and once again I heard Drama’s voice. What I was thinking had a strong possibility of becoming true; Tyler has Drama hosting his album. Once Friday came and I knew that what I predicted came true, I truly lost my mind. If you know me, then you know that I’ve always been a fan of DJs screaming on rapper’s mixtapes. I have never downloaded a mixtape that said ‘NO DJ’ on it. Like, why was that even an option? Their adlibs and screaming is what makes the mixtape in my opinion. It gave it that necessary energy. When Friday at midnight came, instead of going to Apple Music and streaming the new album, I went to Twitter to view everyone’s reaction to the new release and it was for the most part very positive. At that point, I was so excited but too excited – so I made the decision to wait until I wake up to listen to the album so I can actually get some type of sleep that night.

The next day came, and I rushed to my work laptop to play the album. SIR BAUDELAIRE is the first song on the album. Drama says “Y’all Ready” and at :34 seconds in I hear that classic “Gangsta Grizillz” adlib and the biggest smile came across my face. Tyler pairing up with DJ Drama is something that I never knew I needed. Not wanted, NEEDED. Halfway into the album I just straight up start shaking my head because it’s that good so far. The amount of nostalgia that hit me all at once was a lot to handle. I don’t hear much of DJ Drama hosting tapes let alone albums anymore, maybe just singles. But to have something of this era that I can go back to in my Apple Music library and hear a DJ host an album from one of my favorite rappers is one of the dopest feelings.

When the album came to an end, I didn’t even realize it was over because I felt like I was in a trance. While I’m listening to the album, I’m also thinking of all the ‘Dedication’ series from Lil Wayne, all the ‘Well Done’ series from Tyga that had Drama yelling and just having that feeling of happiness and hype. Not to mention going down memory lane of where I was in life when these mixtapes came out (high school and college). Once CALL ME WHEN YOU GET LOST ended, I went to his Twitter page just to see what he tweeted and back in 2010 he had tweeted ‘I WANT A GANGSTA GRILLZ TAPE SO FUCKING BAD GOT DAMN’ and 10 years later it manifested into something real. I’m so proud to see Tyler reaching his goals, whatever that may be and also talking his shit and letting it be known that he is that nigga who puts his mind into whatever it is he wants to do, then achieves it.

I thought I was also going to do an album review, but I don’t think I will. However, what I will say is that it’s a 10/10 and I can’t remember the last time I graded an album a 10 across the board like that. IT IS PHENOMENAL. If you made it this far, then wow thank you because this is the nerdiest thing I’ve ever wrote lol. It’s how I really feel about this album though.

Tyler did it again.
